"The Community Bank may be new to Fairfield County, but it has a rich history in Athens County. The bank was established in 1945 in Glouster by L.E. Richardson, and was known as The Glouster Community Bank. It expanded into the nearby community of Amesville in 1976, when it merged with the First National Bank of Amesville.
"A Nelsonville branch office opened in 1993. Richardson turned the day-to-day management of the bank over to his son, L.E. Richardson, Jr. in 1971.
"The Community Bank has been affiliated with United Bancorp, Inc. of Martins Ferry, Ohio since July 1998, when United Bancorp purchased the Glouster Community Bank and its holding company, Southern Ohio Community Bancorp, Inc. That acquisition led to the current bank expansion into Fairfield County.
"The Community Bank is now headquartered in Lancaster and operates three Lancaster banking offices and four banking offices in northern Athens County.
"United Bancorp also owns The Citizens Savings Bank, which operates 12 offices in eastern Ohio and has assets of $239 million. James W. Everson is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of United Bancorp. United Bancorp is a multi-bank holding company. The Company trades on The NASDAQ SmallCap Market Tier of the NASDAQ Stock Market under the symbol UBCP, Cusip #90991109."
